Fishing methods
Embsay Reservoir sits above the village of Embsay, a couple of miles from Skipton in the Yorkshire Dales. Built between 1905 and 1909, it covers almost 30 acres and reaches 79 feet at its deepest point. Skipton Angling Association holds the fishing rights and sells day tickets to anyone, no membership required.
The reservoir is stocked with rainbow trout, including blue and gold colour variants, plus spartic and tiger trout, two hybrid strains the club has stocked since 2016. Brown trout are present too, both stocked and naturally occurring. A day ticket allows up to two rainbow trout to be kept; every other fish, including any brown, spartic, tiger or perch, must be returned. Rainbow, blue, spartic and tiger trout fishing closes each year from 28 February to 24 March, and brown trout fishing is additionally closed from 1 October to 24 March.
Fly fishing, float fishing with worm and minnow, and spinning are all permitted; ground baiting and loose feeding are not. Day tickets are sold online through the club’s own store or in person at outlets in Embsay, Earby, Skipton and Keighley.
