Fishing methods
Fly methods
The two fly fishing lakes at Kilnsey Park sit on the Kilnsey Park Estate in Upper Wharfedale, North Yorkshire, below Kilnsey Crag. Each lake is about an acre, and both are spring fed, which keeps them fishing well through winter as well as summer. They are regularly stocked with rainbow, blue and brown trout from 2lb to well over 20lb, raised on the estate’s own trout farm.
Tickets run four or eight hours, each sold as catch and release or with a fish to take home. No fish over 5lb may be kept, and every brown and blue trout must be returned, both charged extra if taken. Fishing is fly only, with strictly single barbless hooks and no wading. Rod hire is available at £20 a day with a £50 refundable deposit, and a loyalty card cuts around twelve and a half per cent off ticket prices for regulars.
The fishery is open from 7.30am to 5pm, May to September, and the same hours October to April, when the lakes are closed on Mondays. Pre-booking is advised. One fishing platform is wheelchair accessible with parking reserved alongside it, and free fish processing is offered after your session, with filleting for a small charge.
