Ladybower Reservoir is Ladybower Fisheries’ water at Bamford in the Derbyshire Peak District: a 504 acre reservoir built in the Derwent Valley, with over 13 miles of fishable bank and a greatest depth of 135 feet when it was completed in 1945. Much of the bank shelves steeply into deep water, which makes it productive fishing even without wading.
Fly fishing only is permitted, from the bank, a float tube, a kayak, or one of the fishery’s own boats. Rainbow and blue trout are stocked, wild brown trout are also present, and fish have been caught here past 20 pounds. As an upland water the trout respond well to falls of terrestrial insects close to the bank as well as the usual aquatic hatches.
Day tickets are sold by catch and release or by a fish limit of two or four, with half day and full day options, plus season tickets running March to November. From 15 November to 27 February the fishery runs Peak Predator, boat only pike and perch fishing with every fish returned, including any trout caught by mistake. No trout under 10 inches may be taken, and any brown trout, pike or other coarse fish must be returned. A current Environment Agency rod licence is required, and every fish kept must be logged on the catch return card provided.
