Leighton Reservoir is Leighton Fly Fishing’s water above Masham in Wensleydale, North Yorkshire, within the Swinton Estate: a 90 acre reservoir owned by Yorkshire Water, with its fishing rights held by the Swinton Estate and run day to day by Swinton Trout Farm. A car park sits at the reservoir, and it is the only one of the estate’s two reservoirs open to public fishing.

Fly fishing only is permitted, fished entirely from the bank, with no boats offered. Rainbow trout are stocked from the adjoining Swinton Trout Farm, around 15,000 fish a year, and tickets allow either a fish to take or fishing entirely catch and release.

The water sits in open moorland above the Ure valley, with views across to neighbouring Nidderdale. As an upland stillwater with a steady through flow, it fishes well across a range of conditions. Current prices, season dates and how to buy a ticket are best checked directly with Swinton Trout Farm, since the fishery no longer runs its own booking website.
