Fishing methods
The Tavy beat is dark moorland water in a secluded valley, where the association says you can lose yourself. It supports hard fighting brown trout, with salmon and sea trout in summer and autumn, and the association calls it good fly water. There is a smaller beat to the south as well.
The association’s map shows a left bank section running down from the top end layby, with named pools including Power Station Pool, Corner Pool, the Glide, Cliff Pool, Long Pool, Elephant Pool and Dougie’s Pool, and a separate right bank section at Cottage Pool further downstream. Parking is by the village, or in single vehicle laybys at the top and bottom of the beat. Please do not cross the garden of Wilminstone Cottage.
Day tickets are bought online on the day you fish, cover every beat for 24 hours from 4am, and are at the moment sold for salmon at £20.
