Scar House Reservoir sits at the very head of Nidderdale, in the Yorkshire Dales. It is an upland wild brown trout fishery controlled by Nidderdale Angling Club, which also fishes around seven miles of the River Nidd down the dale toward Pateley Bridge. Angram Reservoir lies about two kilometres away, in the same upper valley.

Fishing is for wild brown trout only, by fly, worm or artificial minnow, from 8am until an hour after sunset. Up to two trout over twelve inches may be kept in a day; every other fish must go back. Natural minnow is never allowed here, and there is no wading, swimming, boat fishing or fishing from the dam wall. The reservoir is on Yorkshire Water land, so anglers also need to keep to Yorkshire Water’s own rules, including where to park.

Day and week tickets are sold online or from Summerbridge Stores and the Spar on the High Street in Pateley Bridge, and the trout season here runs from 25 March to 30 September. A catch return has to be sent in after every visit, and a dog or a radio is not allowed on the bank.
