About Meon Springs Fly Fishery

Meon Springs Fly Fishery sits at Whitewool Farm near East Meon in Hampshire, inside the South Downs National Park. The Butler family has farmed here since 1930, and brothers Will and Jamie Butler now run the fishery alongside the rest of the farm.

Two spring-fed lakes are stocked with rainbow trout from 2 lb, raised on site in the fishery’s own trout farm. Every ticket also covers the Meon Beat, a separate catch and release section on the same water, for anglers who want a different kind of fishing during the same visit. The lakes are fed by the Whitewool Stream, a headwater of the River Meon, and the farm runs a wetland project where the stream leaves the property to keep the water clean before it reaches the river.

Day tickets run from 8am to 6.30pm, and in summer there is evening fishing too. A ticket costs £43 for two fish, then £14 a fish after that, and any fish you do not catch within your ticket earns a credit towards a future visit. A tackle shop and café are on site, along with a fishing school for beginners through to more experienced anglers, and a fishing club for regulars. Anglers can also stay over in one of six Shepherd’s Huts by the water or at the Yurt Village, and fish at any time of their stay for no extra charge beyond the price of what they catch.
