About Press Manor Fishing Lakes

Press Manor Fishing Lakes sits on Birkin Lane at Ashover in the Derbyshire Peak District, about five miles north of Matlock and six miles south of Chesterfield. Bernie Maher has run the fishery since 1995 and is also a fly casting instructor and guide, qualified since 1993 with AAPGAI, FFF and APGAI certificates, and an Orvis Endorsed Guide. He has represented England seventeen times in fly fishing, won the English National Fly Fishing Championship in 2005 and 2006, and holds eight Commonwealth England Team medals. He also guides and works as a bailiff on the Derbyshire Wye for The Haddon Estate, and before fishing full time he played professional cricket for Derbyshire County Cricket Club for seventeen years.

This listing covers the trout lake: 5.5 acres, stocked with rainbow and brown trout averaging over 2lb, with a fishing lodge built on its bank in 2015 and boats for hire from March to December. Press Manor also runs a separate carp lake and a coarse lake on the same site, each priced and booked on their own.

Fly casting lessons and guided fishing are available with Bernie, on the trout lake or on the Derbyshire Wye and Derwent, and corporate and group days can be arranged using the fishing lodge. Press Manor has featured on ITV’s Heart of the Country and BBC One’s Wild Weather.
