About Wimbleball Fly Fishery
Wimbleball Fly Fishery is the trout fishing on Wimbleball Lake, a reservoir in Exmoor National Park near Brompton Regis. The fishery runs under its own name, with its own online booking and its own permit office on site.
The lake covers 370 acres, with several bays and arms to fish, including Bessoms Bay, Steart Bay close to the dam, and the tree lined Upton Arm. Rainbow trout are grown on at the fishery’s own trout farm on the River Exe and stocked into the lake, and a resident population of wild brown trout lives alongside them.
Fishing is by fly only, from the bank or from a boat. Day tickets, evening tickets and boat hire are all sold online, and bank tickets are also sold from a self serve permit hut on site for anglers who turn up on the day. Catch returns are asked for after every visit, to help the fishery plan its stocking.
The fishery also sells fishing breaks with the Raleghs Cross Inn nearby, with dinner, bed and breakfast plus boat fishing included.
