Double bank

Boldford Bridge is about a kilometre of single right bank on the River Carey, the upper of the two Carey beats on the Passport. Small riffles run into deep pools and runs, and the water gives good dry fly and nymph fishing for wild brown trout and grayling, with sea trout and salmon possible.

It fishes best from within the river with a 7 to 9 foot rod rated 3 to 4 weight. The Passport reports steadily improving catches on the Carey and good mayfly hatches over recent seasons. Coloured water lets you creep up on pools and glides, and fish will often take the fly within touching distance. The beat is very wild, with overhanging trees and structure in the river, which is good for the fish but can make it hard to cast.

Fly only, and all fish are returned. A day costs 3 Fish Pass tokens, booked through the Westcountry Angling Passport.
