Middle Bridge Higher is about 1.4 kilometres of the River Carey, 10 to 20 feet wide and fairly shallow with some deeper pools. It holds wild brown trout and grayling, with sea trout and salmon arriving from July onwards. The beat also runs 50 to 100 yards up the small Henford Water.

Three fields give different water. The first is an open floodplain with narrow glides, shoots and long pools. The second is wider and tree lined, with good pool and riffle sequences and the best dry fly fishing on the beat. The third has two braids around Half Acre Island and more open water above it. Dries, small nymphs or a mix of the two both work, and a rod rated 0 to 4 weight, 5 to 9 feet long, is about right. Thigh or chest waders and a wading stick are advised.

Fly only. A day costs 2 Fish Pass tokens, booked through the Westcountry Angling Passport.
