The Main Fishery is the Town and Manor of Hungerford’s stretch of the River Kennet, ten beats running from Chilton Foliat down to Avington. A sport fishery has been run here since the Wilton Fly Fishing Club started in 1876, and it is now one of the trust’s three fly fishing syndicates.

Membership is a full rod, seven days a week, and there is a waiting list for new members that the trust reviews every year. The trust does not sell day tickets. The season opens on 1 May, the mayfly runs from the last week of May to the second week of June, and grayling can be fished until 31 December.

The trust describes its approach as traditional fly fishing in a gentlemanly manner, rather than the modern catch as many fish as you can approach.
