This stretch of the River Wylye runs through the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust’s Langford Lakes nature reserve at Steeple Langford. The Trust describes it as a sustainable wild fishery for brown trout and grayling, with no stocking and catch and release only. Wading is the usual way to fish it, among low branches and deep hollows.

Aardvark McLeod arranges the fishing and sells syndicate rods, day rods and guided days, and the water suits one or two rods. The river is not open to the public, so you fish undisturbed. The trout season runs from 1 April to 15 October and the grayling season from 16 October to the end of February. Wading is allowed from 15 April to 30 November only.

The reserve has toilets and a cafe, and there is mobile reception on site.
