Double bank

Swinton Estate has four miles of single bank fishing on the River Ure near Masham, for salmon, wild brown trout and grayling. The water quality has improved a great deal over the last 35 years and salmon numbers have risen with it, helped by habitat work from the Yorkshire Dales Rivers Trust and a smolt release programme.

Salmon and grayling day tickets for the Nutwith stretch are booked online through FishPal. Trout day tickets are not sold online and are by special arrangement with FishPal or the estate. The upper stretch of the Ure is otherwise closed to the public and is fished on guided days with the estate’s Northern Fishing Company.

River

It is the main river of Wensleydale, the only major dale named after a village rather than its river, and it passes Hawes, Bainbridge, Masham, Ripon…
