About Bristol Water Fisheries

Bristol Water Fisheries runs three stillwater trout fisheries on reservoirs south of Bristol: Chew Valley Lake, Blagdon Lake and Barrow Tanks. All three are fly fishing waters, stocked with rainbow trout reared at Bristol Water’s own fish farm, and they hold brown trout too.

Chew Valley Lake and Blagdon Lake both offer boat and bank fishing, with a fleet of hire boats at each. Barrow Tanks, three concrete bowl reservoirs near Barrow Gurney, is bank fishing only. The trout season runs from late February or early March, and bank fishing carries on until the end of November.

Permits are sold by how many fish you can take: a full ticket for eight fish, a half day for four, and a cheaper Sporting ticket for two fish on barbless flies. Season tickets are also sold. Boat tickets are for Chew or Blagdon. An All Waters bank or season ticket covers all three waters, and Barrow Tanks also has its own cheaper, bank only tariff.

Bristol Water Fisheries runs its own fly fishing tuition too, with lessons from a qualified instructor, plus guided days on the lakes.
