Fishing methods
Anchor Lake is the main lake at Exe Valley Fly Fishing, two acres of water at an average depth of eight feet, set at Exebridge near Dulverton. It is fed by the River Barle, which keeps the water clear, and a short cast away is the River Exe itself.
Fishing here is fly only. The lake is stocked with rainbow trout, with an average size of around two and a half pounds and fish of four to five pounds not unusual. Every fish must be kept. There is no catch and release.
Day tickets are sold by the fish, together with Lobbs Lake: two fish for thirty five pounds, four fish for fifty pounds, or six fish for sixty five pounds, with a cheaper junior ticket for under thirteens. Season tickets covering both lakes run for six months from the day you buy them, with twenty two, forty four or sixty six fish to take across that period.
Fishing is self-service from the hut on site, where you record your catch and leave payment. There is a large car park, toilets and picnic benches, and the fishery is open every day of the year. You need a rod fishing licence to fish here, under thirteens do not.
