Fishing methods
Foster Beck to Pateley Bridge runs from the mouth of Foster Beck, past the caravan site, to the weir just above the town. It is one of Nidderdale Angling Club’s day-ticket stretches, open to fly and bait, with a footpath along the river.
The club has built platforms for disabled anglers on the Millennium Green, just above the weir at the bottom of the beat, and there is pay parking in Pateley Bridge. Ticket anglers fish with a single rod and barbless or de-barbed hooks; worm on float or leger is allowed, maggots only from 16 June to 14 March and natural minnow only from 1 July to 30 September.
Adult tickets are £15 a day or £40 a week, and juniors under 16 pay £5 or £15. They are sold online or from Summerbridge Stores and the Spar on the High Street in Pateley Bridge, and every ticket also covers the club’s other day-ticket stretches and Scar House Reservoir. Everything goes back: the Nidd is catch and release.
