Fishing methods
The Ramsgill Beat is Nidderdale Angling Club’s stretch of the River Nidd above Gouthwaite Reservoir, and the furthest upstream of its eight beats (the club numbers it Beat 8). It runs from a mark in line with a farm track down to the bridge at Ramsgill, on a small, rain fed river with wild brown trout and grayling.
The river is reached from the roadside, with parking in a lay-by and a stile down to the water, and there may be room to park on the street in Ramsgill. The club asks anglers to take care of the existing fencing.
This is not one of the club’s day-ticket stretches, so it is fished by members and season-ticket holders. Membership is for anglers who live locally, and anglers from further away can apply for a season ticket; the committee decides both. Like all the club’s water, it is catch and release.
