Fishing methods
This beat runs from the weir above Pateley Bridge, through the town and past the recreation ground, down the valley to Castlestead weir above Glasshouses. It is one of Nidderdale Angling Club’s day-ticket stretches, open to fly and bait, and a footpath follows the river for most of the way.
It is fished from the footpath side only: there is no fishing from the opposite bank, along the recreation ground and on down to Castlestead weir. There is a ladder down to the river near the bridge in town, and pay parking in Pateley Bridge. Ticket anglers fish with a single rod and barbless or de-barbed hooks; worm on float or leger is allowed, maggots only from 16 June to 14 March and natural minnow only from 1 July to 30 September.
Adult tickets are £15 a day or £40 a week, and juniors under 16 pay £5 or £15. They are sold online or from Summerbridge Stores and the Spar on the High Street in Pateley Bridge, and every ticket also covers the club’s other day-ticket stretches and Scar House Reservoir. Everything goes back: the Nidd is catch and release.
