Gouthwaite to Foster Beck is where Nidderdale Angling Club’s main run of River Nidd fishing begins, just below Gouthwaite Reservoir. The beat runs down past Wath and the Sportsman’s Arms, under Wath Bridge, to the mouth of Foster Beck near the Bridge Inn.

There is no fishing from the left bank (looking downstream) from the top of the beat to a set of steps below Wath Bridge, and a length below the steps is fly fishing only. Maggots are banned on the whole beat. Parking is at the bus stop before Wath Bridge, with stiles leading upstream and downstream.

This is not one of the club’s day-ticket stretches, so it is fished by members and season-ticket holders. Membership is for anglers who live locally, and anglers from further away can apply for a season ticket; the committee decides both. Like all the club’s water, it is catch and release.
