About Waterside Parks
Waterside Parks runs the fishing at Northumbrian Water’s reservoirs in the North East. In County Durham that is Balderhead, Blackton, Selset and Cow Green, four wild brown trout waters where any method is allowed, and Grassholme, a rainbow trout reservoir stocked from the park’s own fish farm.
Day permits for the wild brown trout waters are £10 (£8 concessions) for 2026, with a catch limit of 12 fish a visit. The Fantastic Four season permit, £105, covers Balderhead, Blackton, Selset and Cow Green as often as you like. Permits are sold online through Bookwhen, at the visitor centre at Grassholme or by phone. Waterside Parks no longer sells rod licences, so buy an Environment Agency rod licence at gov.uk before you fish.
