About Dulverton Angling Association

The Dulverton Angling Association is a members’ association based in Dulverton on Exmoor, with beats on the River Barle, the River Exe and the River Haddeo. Wild brown trout are the main fish, and grayling, salmon and the odd sea trout are in the rivers too.

The association was relaunched after the 2001 foot and mouth outbreak, when the Carnarvon Arms and the Tarr Steps Hotel, which had sold day tickets on the Barle and the Exe, both shut their doors to guests. It now owns the fishing on four of its beats: Percy’s, Stoats Tail, Oakford Bridge and Old Woman’s. The rest is fished with the agreement of the owners, including the Pixton and Hollam estates.

All of its water is fly only with barbless or crushed barb hooks, and every fish goes back except rainbow trout. Adult membership is £35 a year, and juniors up to 16 pay £1. The membership year starts on 1 January, and guests can only fish with a member. Beats are booked through Lance Nicholson in Dulverton on +44 1398 323409. The association also works with the River Exe and Tributaries Association and the Fish The Exe scheme, which sells tickets on two of its beats, Stoats Tail and Bend Pool.
