About Grassholme Reservoir
Grassholme is a large Upper Teesdale reservoir with about four miles of bank, many inlets and bays, run by Waterside Parks for Northumbrian Water. It is stocked with rainbow trout from the park’s own local fish farm, and some of the fish carry tags worth cash prizes. Any method is allowed, so fly, spinning and bait anglers share the banks.
The fishery names the north shore from White Post to Pebble Beach as fly friendly, the south shore from the Witches Hat to Easter Bay as easy to fish with disabled facilities, and the west end for ledger and float. There is a disabled platform near the visitor centre, and the shop sells tackle, bait and drinks. Signal crayfish are present, so follow the Check, Clean, Dry procedure.
For 2026 fishing opens on 14 March, from 8am to 4pm or sunset, whichever is sooner. A full day permit is £31 for 8 fish (£29 concessions) or £27 for 5 fish, under 17s pay £13 for 2 fish, and a catch and release sporting permit for fly and spinning is £22. Winter permits are priced separately, £25 for 8 fish and £17 for catch and release, and the page gives no dates for them, so ask when you book. Parking is included.
