About Chester-le-Street & District Angling Club
Chester-le-Street and District Angling Club was established in 1935 and fishes the River Wear for salmon and sea trout, calling its beats the first non-tidal water on the river. The club maintains several miles of river, from the lower beats near Chester-le-Street through private estate waters up to Finchale Abbey.
Full membership is limited to 230 members and there is a waiting list, where applicants living within the old Chester-le-Street District Council boundary have priority. The club’s 2026 fees for new members are £160 for senior membership plus a £50 joining fee, £180 for family membership, £30 for intermediate and £10 for junior membership. Park membership is £40, and park and junior membership are not limited and can be joined at any time. Full members must submit a catch return by 30 November.
There are also day tickets for the park side of the river, sold by Durham County Council rather than the club. You need an Environment Agency rod licence.
