About Derwent Angling Association
Derwent Angling Association was established in 1865 and fishes the River Derwent in the Derwent valley, where County Durham meets Northumberland. Its water starts just below the Derwent Reservoir and runs for 15 miles through Muggleswick Gorge, Allensford and Shotley Bridge to Ebchester and on to Lintzford, below Chopwell Woods. The river holds brown trout and grayling.
Membership is open to anyone, limited to 250 seniors. It costs £60 for seniors and £21 for juniors, and new applicants write to the membership secretary. Day tickets cost £8 and are sold at Allensford Caravan Park, Hamsterley Colliery Post Office, Ebchester Village Store, Rod and Tackle in Cramlington and Derwent Valley Sales in Blackhill. The association also holds exchange tickets with several other clubs, and members can buy a concessionary permit for the Derwent Reservoir.
The rules say fly only: one rod, a fly reel, no spinning and no ground baiting. You need an Environment Agency rod licence.
