About River Derwent, below the reservoir to Lintzford
This is the River Derwent water of Derwent Angling Association: 15 miles from just below the Derwent Reservoir through Muggleswick Gorge, Allensford and Shotley Bridge to Ebchester, finishing below Chopwell Woods at Lintzford. The association describes the valley as bordering County Durham and Northumberland and does not say which bank is which, so the position shown is approximate and sits on the river at Shotley Bridge.
The Derwent holds brown trout and grayling, in what the association calls unspoilt countryside. The rules say fly only, with one rod and a fly reel, and no spinning or ground baiting. The brown trout season runs from 22 March to 30 September, grayling fishing starts on 16 June, and grayling are always returned.
Day tickets cost £8 and are sold at Allensford Caravan Park, Hamsterley Colliery Post Office, Ebchester Village Store, Rod and Tackle in Cramlington and Derwent Valley Sales in Blackhill. Membership costs £60 for seniors and £21 for juniors, with the senior list limited to 250.
