About Avon Springs

Avon Springs is a family-run fishery at Durrington, just north of Salisbury, with two spring-fed trout lakes and a little under a mile of the upper Hampshire Avon. Barrie Bawden built it on old meadow land in 1988, and his family still run it today.

The lakes are Willow Lake, about three acres with two islands, and Club Lake, about five acres. Both are gin clear and stocked with rainbow trout from around 2 lb up into double figures. Lake tickets go by the number of fish you take, from a two-fish evening ticket at £45 to a four-fish day at £65, and you can book them online through the Catch app.

The river is a separate booking. It is the stretch made famous by Frank Sawyer, stocked with brown trout only, most of them from the original Avon strain, with a good head of grayling up to 3 lb. River tickets, and combined river and lake tickets, are only sold through Fishing Breaks.
