Glanusk Estate

The estate’s fishery has six beats: Below the Bridge, Above the Bridge, Llan Wsyg, Dufnant, Family and Green, and an Island Beat that is available on request for one rod. Its fishing page gives the price as £45 a rod a day for salmon and £40 a rod a day for trout. A ghillie or guide is £250 for a day or £125 for half a day. Part of the daily fee goes to the Usk Fishing Association to help protect the river and its tributaries.

The estate runs a full catch and release system for salmon and sea trout, and trebles are not allowed. There is no spinning or bait fishing unless the river is above two feet on the bridge gauge after 31 May to the end of the season. Fly fishing is the only permitted method between 3 March and 31 May. The salmon and sea trout season runs from 3 March to 17 October and the brown trout season from 3 March to 30 September. Smaller trout are returned, and anglers may keep up to two trout over a pound.
