Cove Quarry is about 600 metres of the River Exe at the edge of Cove village, and it is fished on Tuesdays only. The river here is about 20 yards wide. The association suggests a 10 to 12 foot fly rod, with chest waders and a wading stick, and describes it as good salmon water that also holds trout and grayling. It is fly only.

A salmon ticket costs £30 for the day, or £15 for an evening salmon ticket. Trout and grayling cost £10 for the day. Brown trout must be returned and rainbow trout are kept. This beat needs membership of the Dulverton Angling Association.

Travelling from Tiverton, turn left in the middle of Cove after the phone box and follow the road to the quarry entrance on the edge of the village. Park at the large galvanised gate without blocking it, then walk through the old lorry park to the quarry bridge. You fish up and downstream from the bridge. The top of the beat is marked by a white post, and the bottom is the line across the top of the natural weir and run at the bottom of Bridge Pool.

Approximate location

The river

River

The River Exe rises at Exe Head on Exmoor, near Simonsbath, which is in Somerset. Almost the whole of its 60 miles is in Devon, though, and it flows more or less due south, through Tiverton and on to Exeter. Below Exeter it becomes a broad ria, the Exe Estuary, reaching the English Channel between Exmouth and Dawlish…
