Easby Waters is Richmond and District Angling Society’s water downstream of Richmond on the River Swale, fished for game and coarse fish. The club holds the fishing on the south bank from Mercury Bridge to the old railway bridge at Easby, about 1.1 miles, and on the north bank from the stone steps to Mercury Bridge. It sits along the Easby Loop walk, which leads on to Easby Abbey.

The numbered pegs run from Station Bend at Mercury Bridge, down past Sand Beck to the old railway bridge, and on to a further short stretch about 500 metres below it, to the beck in Iron Banks Wood. Parking at the Station is paid. There is free parking at Easby Abbey, and hard standing at the water works.

Trout fishing runs from 25 March to 30 September, and coarse fish and grayling from 16 June to 14 March, with the river closed from 15 to 24 March. Fish go back, and a day permit is bought online from the society.

Fishing rules for Easby Waters

Every angler needs an Environment Agency rod licence, which is not included in the day permit, and must carry the permit. All fish are returned alive and no fish may be killed or removed. No more than two rods. Single barbless or nipped barbed hooks only, with no double or treble hooks; any double or treble on a lure or spinner must be replaced with a barbless single. No keep nets, and landing nets must be knotless. Between 25 March and 15 June there are no swim feeders, groundbait or maggots, and hook baits are limited to fly, worm, stonefly, lures and spinners. The river is closed to all fishing from 15 to 24 March. Day permits run from 6.00am to 10.00pm, with no night fishing. A catch return must be filed within 24 hours of every session, even a blank one. No dogs. Check, clean and dry kit before leaving the river to stop the spread of invasive species.
