Fishing methods
Round Howe and Green Bridge covers the Richmond and District Angling Society’s trout water on the River Swale as it runs into Richmond. Any legal method is allowed within the club rules. The south bank runs about 1.8 miles from Lowenthwaite Bridge on Reeth Road down to the Green Bridge, and is reached from the Round Howe car park or from the Green Bridge itself. From the Green Bridge a footpath beside the sports field leads to Richmond Falls, where a limit sign on a tree marks the end of the water.
On the north bank, the water runs about 500 metres below the footbridge, but it is mostly cut off by housing and a caravan site and can only be fished when the river is low in summer. Upstream of the footbridge a path through Round Howe Woods leads about 800 metres to a large pool known locally as Sandy Dubb, the top limit.
The water holds only trout, so it is closed from 1 October until 25 March. Round Howe public car park is paid. Fish are returned, and a day permit is bought online from the society.
