About Ammanford and District Angling Association
Ammanford and District Angling Association was formed in 1927 by local anglers who wanted to hold on to the water available to the local people. It has some eight miles of fishing on the Rivers Loughor and Amman, running downstream from Llandybie to Hendrewen near Pontarddulais. The Loughor is known as a sea trout river and was once a great salmon water, and the club says water quality has improved in recent years. It also holds fly tying lessons through the winter.
Permits for 2026 are £50 for a full member, £35 for a disabled member, £20 for a student, £15 for a youth member aged 16 to under 18 and £1 for a junior under 16. Day permits are £15 and weekly permits £45; the club asks for two days’ notice, and day, weekly, junior and youth permits are bought through the secretary. New members pay a joining fee of half the permit price, except juniors. The closing date for permits is 31 March, and anyone applying after that is placed at the end of the waiting list. A rod licence is needed.
The club’s rules cover salmon, sea trout (sewin) and brown trout. All salmon are released. Sewin must be returned before 1 May and after 31 August, with a limit of two a day between those dates, after which you stop fishing once the second is killed. Hooks must be barbless or debarbed, one rod is allowed, and gaffs and tailers are not. The season for salmon and sewin runs from 20 March to 17 October and for brown trout from 3 March to 30 September, with the club’s methods set out on its byelaws page.
