About Lark Angling and Preservation Society
The Lark Angling and Preservation Society is a river society founded in 1893 on the River Lark in Suffolk. It says it controls over 12 miles of riverbank, with a fly fishing section and a separate coarse section, and this page describes the fly fishing only. The society also has coarse water, which is run as its own section.
The fly fishing section holds wild trout and stocked brown trout. The society describes the Lark as the only designated chalk stream left in Suffolk, with its own head of indigenous brown trout, and its work is aimed at the wild fish: keeping stocking to a minimum, jetting spawning gravels, clearing sections so fish can move, and looking after the Cavenham Mill stream, which it calls the main wild trout breeding area. Its bye-laws set a trout close season from 29 October to 1 April, no trout under 12 inches may be taken, and bubble float fishing is prohibited on the trout fishery.
The trout section is members only and is full: the society says it has a full complement of members and a waiting list. Trout enquiries go to the address below. The society does not publish a map or a list of its trout stretches, so none is shown here.
