About Bala and District Angling Association
Bala and District Angling Association (Cymdeithas Genweirio Y Bala a’r Cylch) fishes the River Dee at Bala and at Llandderfel, the Tryweryn, the Dee outflow from Llyn Tegid, the Llafar and Lliw and small sections of the Twrch and the Dee Bach above the lake. It also has Llyn Maes y Clawdd, a small fly only lake stocked with rainbow and blue trout, Llyn Cwmprysor, a small mountain lake of wild brown trout about 12 miles from Bala on the Trawsfynydd road, and Llyn Tegid, the big lake. The rivers hold wild brown trout and grayling, with migrating salmon and sea trout.
Permits are sold from Y Gwyniad and the Post Office on Bala High Street, Caffi Woody’s at Bala Leisure Centre and the Bryntirion Inn at Llandderfel. The association’s 2026 permit costs list a day ticket for all waters except Llyn Tegid and Maes y Clawdd at £17.50, a weekly ticket for seven consecutive days at £50 and a junior day ticket at £2.50. Season tickets run from 1 March to the end of February: a local senior is £90 and a non-resident senior £100, with concession and junior rates on the page, and a five rod block ticket is £450. The page also lists a salmon ticket at £25 and a Dee outflow ticket at £10. Llyn Maes y Clawdd is for season and block ticket holders only.
A Natural Resources Wales rod licence is needed. At most 2 trout (6 at Cwmprysor) and 2 grayling between 30 and 38cm may be taken in a day, trout must be at least 23cm, and salmon must be returned. This listing shows the Dee at Bala, the club’s water at Llandderfel, the Tryweryn and Llyn Maes y Clawdd.
