About Bangor-on-Dee Salmon Anglers
Bangor-on-Dee Salmon Anglers (BODSA) is a village club on the Welsh Dee at Bangor-on-Dee, about five miles south east of Wrexham, with over 10 miles of river. It was set up in 1946 and is now a limited company run by its members. Despite the name it fishes for salmon, sea trout (sewin), brown trout and grayling, as well as coarse fish, and the club says that in low water big fish cannot run upstream of Bangor-on-Dee, so its lower beats are the ones to try then.
The club’s pages describe a run of beats down the river from Pickhill to Old Lower Hall, mostly left bank, with the Village beat at Bangor-on-Dee itself. This listing shows seven of them: the Village beat, Pickhill, The Captain’s, Rodens Hall, Done’s Meadow, The Chicken Sheds and Old Lower Hall. The club also fishes Groves Farm and Sutton Green, which are not shown here.
Visiting anglers are welcome on the Village beat, the right bank from the new road bridge at Bangor-on-Dee down to Graig Cottages, about two miles. The club’s 2025 tariff lists salmon day and week tickets at £20 and £70, and trout day and week tickets at £10 and £40, for visitors without a member. Tickets are sold at The Middle Shop in Bangor-on-Dee. A member may also bring a guest on a salmon day ticket at £10, three a year. The other beats are for members. Full annual adult membership is £95 with a £10 joining fee, membership runs from 1 January to 31 December, and the club limits its membership to 300. Joining is online. Tuition from an APGAI qualified instructor can be arranged with notice.
A rod licence of the appropriate category is needed. All fish caught must be returned.
