About Betws-y-Coed Anglers Club
Betws-y-Coed Anglers Club fishes the Rivers Conwy and Llugwy at Betws-y-Coed in Snowdonia for salmon, sea trout and brown trout. It manages the Gwydyr Fishery, the river water around the village that was run for over 150 years by the Gwydyr Hotel: two beats on the Conwy and about two miles of the lower Lledr. The land and rivers belong to the Gwydyr Estate, which leases the fishing. The club also leases three local lakes: Llyn Elsi, which sells day tickets to visitors, and Llyn Goddionduon and Llyn Bychan, which are not stocked. Membership is open to all anglers.
For 2026 the club lists a salmon day ticket at £50 (dawn till dusk) and a sea trout dusk till dawn day ticket at £35, with a day on Llyn Elsi at £25. A season ticket for local members, with an LL24 postcode, is £120 for salmon and sea trout and is stated to include all rivers and lakes, a season ticket for anglers outside LL24 is £180 and juniors under 16 pay £20 for the lakes and rivers. Tickets and membership are bought by emailing the club secretary.
Every angler sends a catch return to the secretary before 31 October, even if nothing was caught. A Natural Resources Wales rod licence is needed. The club does not provide a ghillie service.
