About Temple Trout Fishery

Temple Trout Fishery sits in an old china clay pit on Bodmin Moor, about five miles east of Bodmin and well signposted from the A30. The fishery describes itself as 5.6 acres of trout fishing. Mallard Lake is fly fishing only, with a 430 metre perimeter, and is stocked with rainbow and brown trout from 1.5lb up to double figures. The fishery says most bags average over 2lb a fish.

Julian Jones runs the fishery. There is a fishing hut that sells flies and a small range of tackle, and a flushing toilet. It is open from 8am until dusk, every day from 1 April to 31 October, and on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays only from 1 November to 31 March. The home page says the fishery is open by appointment, so ring Julian to book in. The gate is kept locked with a combination lock, all catches must be taken home to be weighed, and catch returns are sent by email or text.

Tickets run from £20 for four hours and two fish to £40 for a full day and five fish, with a 25 fish season ticket at £217.50. Under 16s and disabled anglers pay £20 for two fish. Fly casting tuition is available with instructor Dave Matthews.
