About Monmouth and District Angling Society
Monmouth and District Angling Society was founded in 1952 by game fishermen who wanted good fishing at low cost for the people of Monmouth. It fishes the River Monnow at Vauxhall Fields in the town, and rents about six kilometres of the River Trothy, a small wild brown trout stream. The society also has coarse fishing on the Wye at Hadnock and Dukes Water, and on still waters, which this listing does not cover.
Fishing is for members only. Membership is limited to 200 and is renewed each year: full membership is £65, concession (65 and over, or disabled) £40, family £70 and junior £5. Day tickets are no longer sold. The society prefers online sign-up through its Clubmate page, which needs a passport style photo, and you can also pay in cash at the Royal Oak in Hereford Road, Monmouth. Its contact page is a form, and committee meetings at the Royal Oak are open to members and visitors.
Society seasons are 3 March to 17 October for salmon and 3 March to 30 September for trout. Hooks must be barbless and fish returned quickly. On fly only waters, flies are no larger than size 8 long shank, with no more than three on the cast.
