About River Monnow, Vauxhall Fields
This is Monmouth and District Angling Society’s water on the River Monnow in Monmouth. The society has about 400m on both banks from the flood relief works behind the bus station up to Tibbs Bridge behind the Castle, and 1,000m on the right bank only from the Castle footbridge to the lower stone wall of Salts Lodge above the broken weir. It describes the Monnow as a lowland spate river.
The river holds wild brown trout and grayling in the faster water, with chub, roach and the occasional large pike. The left bank is reached from the bus station car park, and the right bank from the Castle footbridge, Inglis Bridge opposite the crematorium on Osbaston Road, or the park entrance gate off Rockfield Road at Drybridge.
Fishing is for society members only and day tickets are not sold. The trout season is 3 March to 30 September and the salmon season 3 March to 17 October.
