About River Trothy
The River Trothy is a small wild brown trout stream with steep banks and overhanging trees in many places, which suits a light rod and the fly. It has a good mayfly hatch in May and June, and the water is permanently coloured. Monmouth and District Angling Society rents about 3 km of right bank from the field below Jingle Street bridge up to Dingestow Bridge, about 3.2 km of right bank from above St Dingatโs church in Dingestow to the orchard at Lower Llantrothy farm, and about 500m of left bank from the Treowen Estate opposite Lower Llantrothy.
The easiest way in is from the fields just below and above Jingle Street bridge. The bank above the church, the bank at Lower Llantrothy and the opposite Treowen Estate bank are also good because the tree growth there is managed. There is parking at the church and just before the entrance to Lower Llantrothy farm.
Fishing is for society members only and day tickets are not sold. The trout season is 3 March to 30 September.
