About Nevern Angling Association
Nevern Angling Association is run by local volunteers and fishes the River Nevern, a spate river that rises in the Preseli hills and reaches the sea at Newport Bay. The club offers sewin (sea trout) and salmon fishing in the upper, middle and lower river, and says the sewin normally start to run in early May and peak in July, with grilse from July and salmon from August to the end of the season in October. Fly fishing and spinning are popular, and fly fishing at night for sewin is especially so.
The association was formed about thirty years ago when two smaller clubs joined. Most of its fishing is rented from riparian owners, and over the last ten years or so it has bought some of the fishing rights. Its water is divided into four stretches: the river below Nevern bridge, the Penwaun stretch, the Felindre Farchog stretch and the Crosswell water.
Day (24 hour) and week permits are sold to visiting anglers through the season. The club’s blog names the Salutation Inn at Felindre Farchog and the Post Office in Newport as places to buy them, and its permits page also lists a post option through the membership secretary. Membership is limited to prevent overcrowding but has no residency condition, and is applied for with a form sent to the membership secretary. Anglers need a rod licence.
