About West House Trout Lakes
West House has four stocked lakes of about eight acres in all. West Lake is the oldest, about 1.5 acres and 4 to 11 feet deep, and also holds carp. Horseshoe Lake, about 2 acres and 5 to 7 feet deep, wraps around it and is described as a stalking lake. Fox Lake is about an acre, and only nymphs, buzzers or dry flies are allowed on it. Mill Lake is the largest at about 4 acres, with two islands and several bays.
The fishery stocks rainbow trout from 2lb upwards, and its home page also mentions blue trout and brown trout up to 22lb. The fishery record is 19lb. Fishing is fly only with a maximum of two barbless flies, and you bring your own landing net. Wading is not allowed. All brown trout go back, and so do rainbows of 6lb or over.
A ticket is £20 and covers keeping your first fish, then catch and release. It is open Tuesday to Sunday from 8am to 4pm.
