About Grantham Angling Association Fly Fishing Section
The Grantham Angling Association Fly Fishing Section, known as GAAFFS, is the fly only section of Grantham Angling Association, a club formed in 1872. The section was formed in 1968, after a proposal to make a stretch of the River Witham a fly only trout water. Its members fish for wild brown trout and grayling on the Witham, to the north and south of Grantham, in the south west corner of Lincolnshire. The club says its waters are no longer stocked and are managed as a wild fishery, and it also has fishing on the River Chater and the River Welland west of Stamford.
The trout season runs from 1 April to 29 October, and can be extended to February for grayling only. Catch and release is obligatory on all waters, with barbless hooks. Membership is limited by the water available, and members must also belong to Grantham Angling Association and hold an Environment Agency rod licence.
