About Islwyn and District Anglers
Islwyn and District Anglers is a fly fishing club based in Caerphilly County Borough, set up in the 1970s when Risca Fly Fishing Association, Ynysddu and Cwmfelinfach Angling Club and Blackwood Angling Club joined together. It holds stretches of the Ebbw, Sirhowy and Rhymney rivers for brown trout and two trout stillwaters, Pen-y-fan Pond at Oakdale and Pant-yr-Eos Reservoir at Risca.
All river fishing is catch and release. Day tickets are sold online or at Green’s Fishing Tackle in Pontllanfraith, and the club’s 2026 day ticket is £17 for the rivers and £22 for each stillwater, with a two fish limit on the stillwaters. Annual membership for 2026/27 is £165 for a full member, and the club’s 2026 prices list river only membership at £65 and juniors under 16 at £30. Fishing is fly only, bar worm on the upper stretches of the Ebbw Fawr and the Sirhowy, and every angler needs a Natural Resources Wales rod licence.
