About Macclesfield Flyfishers Club
Macclesfield Flyfishers Club is a small fly fishing club, formed in 1949, that offers fishing on both stillwater and river. Its main water is Ridgegate Reservoir, a 30 acre reservoir in Macclesfield Forest, on the south western edge of the Peak District National Park, which the club leases from United Utilities and stocks with rainbow and brown trout. It also fishes about nine miles of the upper River Dane along the Cheshire and Staffordshire border, and a large part of the Dane’s tributary Clough Brook, for wild brown trout. The club says there is no stocking on the river, every fish must be returned and hooks must be barbless or de-barbed.
Membership is limited to 100. For 2026 the club charges £235 for seniors (21 and over), £117.50 for intermediates (18 to 20) and £50 for juniors (under 18), who must be accompanied at all times, and it waived its normal £100 joining fee for 2026. The club also sells day tickets for the Hug Bridge beat of the River Dane in the trout season. To ask about membership or day tickets, use the contact form on the club’s website.
