About Back Dane, Gradbach
The Back Dane is the club’s longest river beat, about four miles of the upper River Dane from Three Shires Head downstream to Watersmeet, where Clough Brook meets the Dane. The fishing is continuous apart from a short stretch around Gradbach Mill and is mainly double bank. It also includes about 600 metres of the left bank (looking downstream) of Clough Brook immediately above Watersmeet.
The fishing ranges from fairly easy and relaxing to quite challenging, and the club says some stretches need lengthy walks, all the way up to Three Shires Head. The club suggests the public car park at Gradbach, roughly in the middle of the beat.
The fishing is for wild brown trout. The club does not stock the river, every fish must be returned and hooks must be barbless or de-barbed. The water is for members of the club, and day tickets are not available on this beat. The position shown is approximate and marks Gradbach.
