About Llandegfedd Reservoir
Llandegfedd is a 434 acre Welsh Water reservoir near Pontypool, with the county boundary between Monmouthshire and Torfaen running through the water. Rainbow trout are stocked regularly and a small number of wild brown trout are present. Coarse fish live here too, and pike fishing runs on set days in March and October.
From the bank you can fly fish or ledger a worm, with worm fishing limited to the East Bank and Bill Smithโs Bay. Boats are fly only, and boats may not fish within 50m of a bank where anglers are fishing. Spinning is not allowed, and trolling is allowed under oars only. In October, fishing is closed between the Bill Smithโs Bay fence and the inlet, with a 100m exclusion zone offshore.
The rainbow season is 1 March to 31 October and the brown trout season 20 March to 17 October, with bank and boat fishing from 8.30am to 5.00pm. Book on the reservoirโs online booking page or buy a permit at the Grab and Go cafรฉ in the visitor centre. Anglers aged 13 and over need a rod fishing licence.
