About Pontardawe and Swansea Angling Society
Pontardawe and Swansea Angling Society (PASAS) is a game fishing club in the Swansea Valley. It started in 1946 as the Pontardawe Angling Society and is now a not for profit company with about 170 members, about 140 adults and 30 juniors. The club holds most of the fishing on the River Tawe between Ynysmeudwy and Morriston, for brown trout, sea trout and salmon. Most of the Tawe is suitable for fly fishing, though some stretches are easier with a spinner or worm.
The club also fishes the Upper Clydach River, from its confluence with the Tawe up through Cwmdu Glen, the Lower Clydach River, from the Tawe up to the Lon Bridge, the right bank of the River Gwili, a tributary of the Loughor, at Geubren Farm near Hendy, and 1,300 yards of the River Cilieni, a tributary of the Usk, where only fly fishing is allowed and every fish must be returned. The club publishes maps of all its water for its members, and part of its Tawe fishing is also sold as day tickets through the Fishing Passport.
Day permits are £10, from H R Jones, a tackle and hardware shop at 68 High Street, Clydach, or online through the Fishing Passport. Annual membership for a new member is £85, and £65 for an existing member who renews before the end of April. Students aged 17 to 21, anglers over 65 and members of the Tawe Disabled Fishers section pay £30, and juniors under 17 are free. Membership runs from 1 March to the end of February. Tawe Disabled Fishers is a section of the club for disabled anglers, with a monthly fishing day in the season. A Natural Resources Wales rod licence is needed.
