About Pwllheli and District Angling Association
Pwllheli and District Angling Association was formed in 1952 to keep the fishing on the Afon Erch and Afon Rhydhir open to local anglers and to look after the fisheries of the Llŷn Peninsula. It took on the fishing rights on Llyn Cwmystradllyn in 1985, and the lake is now its main fishery.
The club controls 6 miles of the Erch and 1 mile of the Rhydhir, both of which flow into Pwllheli harbour. It describes wild brown trout in both, sea trout from June to September and salmon later in the year, with the rivers open until 31 October. Llyn Cwmystradllyn, in the foothills of Snowdonia, is stocked with rainbow trout on top of its wild brown trout, and fly, spinner or worm are allowed.
Membership is available for the rivers only, or for the rivers and the lake. Day, week and season permits are sold at tackle shops and other outlets in Criccieth, Pwllheli, Penrhyndeudraeth and Porthmadog and at the last house before the lake, and the club says that since 2018 it accepts no exchange permits from other clubs. The 2026 season price list is on the club’s permits page.
