About the River Afon Erch

The Afon Erch is a short river on the Llลทn peninsula. It rises near the village of Llanaelhaearn and flows south and south west towards Llwyndyrys, where it turns abruptly east, then curves south past Rhyd-y-gwystl to Abererch. Despite the village name it does not reach the sea there. It turns west and runs a mile parallel to the coast to Pwllheli, where it enters the harbour. Until the 16th century the river did reach the sea at Aber-erch, but longshore drift of the sands diverted it west.

04What fish can I catch in the Afon Erch?
Beats on the Afon Erch list brown trout, sea trout, salmon. The mix varies from beat to beat, so check the species on the page for the water you want to fish.
05Do I need a licence to fish the Afon Erch?
Yes. Anyone aged 13 or over fishing for trout, salmon, or coarse fish in England needs a valid Environment Agency rod licence, bought online in daily, weekly, or annual form. It's separate from the beat ticket or syndicate fee, so factor it in before you go.
